WHY:

The College Board’s PSAT, SAT I and SAT II are administered to prospective college students as a way of equalizing the basis on which a student’s academic ability is judged. However, for many students and particularly Students of Color, standardized tests are anxiety producing events. Students may feel that their careers, their futures, their earning potential and, in some cases, their self worth are dependent on their test scores.

To compound these fears, research shows high school students of color are notably falling behind their white counterparts in graduation rates, dropout rates, literacy rates, and college preparedness rates.

By 2050, the United States Census Bureau projects that about 50 percent of the U.S. population will be African American, Hispanic, or Asian. Given these steep demographic shifts, the performance of students of color and the characteristics of the schools they attend are important factors that must concern all Americans.

It is going to take a SUPER human strength and effort to combat these negative stereotypes and statistics. The Super SATurday Public Awareness Campaign will raise the consciousness of the nation to take a stand.
